MINISTRY to THE HOMEBOUND

WHC Ministry to the Homebound.jpg

Jesus often healed the sick throughout his public ministry (Mark 8.22-26) and Catholics have brought Holy Eucharist to the homebound since the Second Century (St. Justin Martyr, Chapter 67). So it is today, although some parishes lack resources to do so. If you are homebound, or know someone who is and are not in touch with a parish, you are not alone. Welcome Home Catholics is here for you.

MINISTRY to HOSPITAL PATIENTS

WHC Catholic Hospital.jpg

While hospitalized practicing Catholics can receive daily Communion through their parishes, we can also visit non-practicing Catholic patients to share their sorrow and joy and pray with them. We can also invite them to contact their local parishes when they are discharged for follow up including home visits and Confession, the gateway to the Eucharist.

MINISTRY to NURSING HOME RESIDENTS

Nursing home life can be challenging. While most patients receive excellent care, they often endure limited mobility and isolation. For those without families, these challenges are even more acute. So, for seven decades, the Friendly Sons of St Patrick of Mobile have been visiting nursing home patients before each St.Patrick's Day. These Mobile Leprechauns spread St.Patrick's love and take the celebration directly to residents not able to go to the Cathedral for Mass and the parade and festivities that follow. Easy to spot in their traditional green corduroy, the Mobile Leprechauns share some Irish humor, a few old pub songs and even dance an Irish jig or two. At each home, activity directors build their unique celebrations around the Leprechauns' visits with the residents often singing along. In keeping with Catholic ecumenism, WHC is partnering with the Mobile Leprechauns to expand these visits to even more nursing homes, both Catholic and secular, in the spirit of "slainte" Gaelic for "good health."
